Driver rolls car on icy Hwy 229, passenger seriously injured

TOLEDO, Ore. -- A man was seriously injured in a rollover crash on Highway 229 Sunday morning after a driver lost control on the icy roadway about three miles north of the Highway 20 intersection.

State Police officials said the crash happened at around 10:20 a.m. Sunday when Marcos Muniz-Strong, 31 of Siletz, lost control on the icy roadway near milepost 28. His Ford Expedition rolled once, coming to a stop on its side off the road.

Muniz-Strong two juvenile passengers inside the car received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Another passenger, identified as Jonathan Benedict, 22 of Toledo, was seriously injured. State Police called an air ambulance to take Benedict to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment.

Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Traffic was rerouted along Yasek Road.
