Driver killed in head-on crash on Hwy 20

EDDYVILLE, Ore. - A driver died when a pickup collided head-on with a heavy pickup truck on Highway 20 Tuesday evening.

Oregon State Police say 66-year-old Gary Richard Langstaff of Siletz was killed Tuesday night when he lost control of his pickup truck on a curve and collided with an oncoming pickup. Langstaff's dog also died in the crash.

The other driver, also from Siletz, was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

Earlier this month two people died when their car left Highway 20 on a curve, rolled down an embankment and landed on its top in the Yaquina River west of Eddyville.

The Oregon Department of Transportation has been working for years to improve the twisting highway that runs through the Coast Range between Newport and the Corvallis-Albany area.
