CLOVERDALE, Ore. - A 31-year-old Tillamook man died when his pickup crossed the highway and went off the road into a utility pole early Thursday morning.

Oregon State Police said Dustin Ford died at the scene of the crash south of Cloverdale on Highway 101.

The crash happened about a half mile north of Brooten Road.

Troopers responded to the crash scene at 6 a.m. The highway had been closed until 2:30 p.m., when traffic resumed in alternating directions with a flagger.

The investigation found Ford was southbound in a 2001 Dodge pickup when he crossed the centerline, went off the highway and crashed into the pole, police said.

The polce came down on the cab of the pickup. Power lines and other cables came down across the highway.

A southbound log truck became entangled in the lines, police said. The log truck driver wasn't injured, but he had to remain inside his truck until the Tillamook People's Utility District de-energized the power lines.
