Divers rescue trio trapped in cabin of capsized sailboat

LAKESIDE, Ore. - Divers rescued two women and a child trapped in the cabin of a capsized sailboat Thursday.

Rescuers got the call just after noon that the 26-foot sailboat had overturned on South Ten Mile Lake near Osprey Point.

Two adult men, ages 70 and 48, got off the boat, but two adult women, ages 46 and 19, and a 1-year-old girl got trapped inside the cabin of the overturned sailboat.

Divers had all three people free from the boat before 1 p.m., the sheriff's office said.

The three passengers trapped in the boat - from Independence, Mo., and St. Helens, Ore. - were taken by ambulance to Bay Area Hospital, where they were later released. They were uninjured, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said the boater failed to take on ballast before launching. When he put up the sail, the wind pushed the boat over.
