Developing Story: fire behind Sheldon High School
The Eugene Police Department is investigating a fire that was started at Sheldon High School Saturday morning around 6 a.m.
Smoke was seen coming from behind the school, near the football field and track area.
The EPD is investigating the fire, believing that arson may have been the intent.
"Any time there's a fire of this suspicious nature, we'll have the Eugene Arson Unit respond and they will take lead on that," said Jeff Kronser of the Eugene-Sprinfield Fire Department.
It took crews approximately 20 minutes to put the fire out.
Officials estimate that damages will reach an estimated cost of $200,000, but that estimation is unofficial at the moment.
Firefighters say that a shed with track equipment was severely damaged, as well as a fork lift and other construction materials that were in the area.
