Coroner Gary Warnock told The Olympian on Wednesday that Forest Bailey died of homicidal violence. He was identified through dental records.
His remains were found Oct. 30.
The newspaper says fellow transient Christopher Harris is charged with second-degree murder in Bailey's death. Harris was being held Wednesday at the Thurston County Jail with bail set at $750,000.
