Crews knock out field fire near Springfield middle school
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Fire crews say quick action helped stop a small field fire from spreading in Springfield Wednesday evening.
The fire broke out in a field behind Hamlin Middle School near Highway 105.
Eugene-Springfield Fire said it took about 20 minutes to knock out the blaze.
Fire crews also said, if it wasn't for a quick response, the fire could have easily spread due to the large amounts of grass and blackberry bushes near the highway.
"When we got here it was slowly moving across the grass and it started to hit the trees a little bit here on our left, and the flame lengths were about 2 to 3 feet tall,” said Robert Lundberg with Eugene-Springfield Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
