Crash injures trucker, kills and wounds sheep

SCIO, Ore. - A truck hauling sheep overturned, injuring the driver and killing or wounding many of the 300 animals in the trailer.

The truck and livestock trailer rolled onto its side around 10:45 a.m. on Highway 226, east of Albany.

The driver was taken by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries to Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

Firefighters, police and passersby worked to help remove sheep from the overturned trailer.

Veterinarians and other personnel from Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine responded to assist with handling the remaining injured sheep.

The sheep's owner was also on scene assisting.
