Crash injures 2, both taken to hospital

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Two people were injured in a crash south of Roseburg on Tuesday.

Officials from Douglas County Fire District #2 say firefighters were called to a 2-vehicle accident just before 11:00 am. The crash happened in front of 3945 Old Highway 99 South in Roseburg.

Firefighters say they found a Volkswagen Jetta and a Buick Lesabre that had collided and were in the middle of the road blocking both lanes of traffic.

Both vehicles had heavy damage, the Buick was smoking from the engine compartment.

The male driver of the Volkswagen was still inside the vehicle, while the female driver of the Buick was lying on the side of the road where she was being helped by bystanders.

Firefighters had to open the hood of the Buick with a cutting tool to identify and remove the source of the smoke.

Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, authorities say.

Traffic on Old Highway 99 South was restricted to one lane only for about 45 minutes.

The Douglas County Sheriff's office is investigating the crash.
