Fatal crash closes Hwy 126 between Eugene and Veneta

VENETA, Ore. - One person is dead and another injured after a crash closed Highway 126 between Eugene and Veneta Tuesday morning.

Oregon State Police confirmed at least 1 person is dead. At least 1 person was taken to a nearby hospital.

State police said as many as 4 vehicles may have been involved in the crash around 9 a.m.

Oregon DOT said the crash 2 miles west of the Beltline Highway closed all lanes and the medians.

"Travelers are advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes," ODOT said in a statement.

The road opened back up to traffic around 12:15 p.m.

ODOT detoured around the crash via Ken Nielson Road to Cantrell Road to Central Road, then back onto Highway 126.

That put highway traffic onto local gravel roads.
