Crash closes highway between Medford and Bend

UPDATE: 1 dead, 2 injured in head-on crash

DIAMOND LAKE, Ore. - Oregon Highway 230 closed a half mile south of the junction with Highway 138 due to a 3-vehicle crash on Friday, Oregon DOT said.

Some of the people involved suffered critical injuries, ODOT said.

The agency corrected earlier reports from the scene that the crash involved 5 vehicles and a semi truck.

Details are still coming in, but ODOT said a Lifeflight air ambulance helicopter had responded to the scene.

"Expect lengthy closure for medical and crash investigation," ODOT said.

As of 11:20 a.m., ODOT said to expect the closure to last through the early afternoon.

As of 3 p.m., one lane had re-opened to traffic.
