Cottage Grove celebrates mining heritage at annual event
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- People in Cottage Grove are getting a blast from the past this weekend.
The 58th Annual Bohemia Mining Days event celebrates Cottage Grove's history as a thriving mining town in the early 1900s.
Hundreds of people from all over the state are enjoying the three-day event at Coinier Park.
It includes a parade through town, live music and a carnival for the kids.
For the first time in 10 years, a new honorary marshal has been named to keep the peace during the event.
"(We) can't really arrest people but we have an honorary thing where if I see littering, I can levy you a fine and if you don't pay it then you go into our jail,” joked event marshal and city councilman Bob Ehler.
Bohemia Mining Days is free of charge to attend.
