Coos Bay man arrested following death of 80-year-old man
COOS BAY, Ore. -- A Coos Bay man is in custody in the death of a man in the Englewood neighborhood.
Authorities say they found 80-year-old Elmer Lloyd Dennis dead at his house on Minnesota Avenue after getting several 911 calls Sunday afternoon.
His cause of death is unknown but authorities said "it is clear he died from homicidal violence."
The district attorney's office says police later caught 29-year-old James Jay Thomasson hiding under a deck at the house.
He was hospitalized after police used a taser to arrest him but is expected to be released to jail Monday.
"The exact cause of death will be released after completion of the autopsy which will be conducted as soon as the forensic pathologist is available," said Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier.
The Coos County Major Crime Team was activated with Coos Bay PD leading the investigation, the DA said.
