Chetco Bar Fire grows overnight
BROOKINGS, Ore. - The Chetco Bar Fire burning in Southwest Oregon grew by about 5 square miles overnight, and covered about 168 square miles as of midday on Sunday.
Residents of Brookings remained under a preliminary evacuation notice on Sunday.
The Chetco Bar Fire is located five miles northeast of Brookings, in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.
The fire was started on July 12 by lightning, and has continued to grow due to hot and dry conditions.
The estimated date of containment has been set at October 15.
