Block party celebrates new Ken Kesey mural in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The dedication of a new mural depicting author, Merry Prankster and Springfield High School graduate Ken Kesey Friday is open to the public.

The free block party starts at 5:30 p.m. downtown at Fourth and Main Street.

The event starts at 5:30 with an address from Mayor Lundberg and the Kesey family.

After the unveiling, the Green Mountain Bluegrass Band will perform.

The photo-realistic, two-story mural on the east side of the Odd Fellows Building at 346 Main Street (which currently houses Planktown Brewery) depicts Kesey's life in Springfield and beyond.

The author of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Sometimes a Great Notion" died in November 2001.

The mural artists from Old City Artists also painted "The Simpsons" mural in Springfield.
