EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon has plans to add an additional building to the campus, and students, faculty and outside organizations say it's been a long time coming.

The University plans to break ground on the Black Cultural Center this summer near 15th Avenue and Villard Street. While it's still in the design phase, they hope to have the two-story facility operational for the 2019-20 school year.

NAACP President, Eric Richardson, says his organization works closely with the University of Oregon faculty and student unio, and he wants to continue to collaborate with the University by sharing archival information and data wit the new Black Cultural Facility.

"We want the University to be a world class University, and that means that everybody who comes to this campus is welcome and feels protected and valued," said Richardson. "So I think that even though it's a small population, it's a population that's given so much to the University of Oregon."

Richardson also says that is one of the 13 student demands made to President Michael Schill since 2015.
