DETROIT, Ore. - A big rig pulling two trailers loaded with hay crashed off Highway 22 into the Santiam River on Wednesday morning.
Truck driver Mark Hess, 57, of Woodburn was treated by medics at the scene. Oregon State Police cited Hess for Leaking/Sifting Load.
The crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. on Hwy 22, east of Detroit. Hay bales on one of the trailers shifted as the truck rounded a curve, state police said, causing Hess to lose control.
The truck came to rest partially in the river. The crash spilled hay bales along the riverbank and highway shoulder.
