Ban plastic bags? City of Eugene wants your input

EUGENE, Ore. - Ban the bag?

The City of Eugene is conducting two surveys to gather information and opinions from consumers and retailers on single-use plastic bag use.

Earlier this year, the Eugene City Council began discussions on limiting the retail use of single-use plastic bags to help reduce waste and promote the use of reusable bags.

The survey results will be provided as public input during a Council work session on Monday, July 23.

The surveys are currently available at www.eugene-or.gov/plasticbags and will close Wednesday, July 11.

The City of Portland passed an ordinance in 2011 banning single-use plastic bags. The Corvallis City Council voted to pass a similar ordinance. A final vote on that law is expected next month.

But efforts to ban plastic bags statewide failed in the last legislative session.
