Audrey McCall, former Oregon first lady, passes away
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The Oregonian newspaper reports that former Oregon first lady Audrey McCall died late Thursday at a Portland care center.
The wife of former Oregon Gov. Tom McCall was 92.
Her son, Tom (Tad) McCall Jr., told the newspaper that his mother's health steadily worsened after she broke her hip this summer.
Audrey McCall was the first lady from 1967 to 1975, a period when her husband and the state became known for their efforts on behalf of the environment.
After her husband died in 1983, McCall sought to carry on his legacy, lending her name and fundraising abilities to candidates of both parties and to causes that were important to her, such as land use.
