ALBANY, Ore. - An anonymous $3 million donation puts the Historic Albany Carousel project closer to completion.
The carousel has been Wendy Kirbey's vision for 12 years. She said the donation from a Linn County resident puts total contributions at just under $5 million.
Kirbey credited her team of volunteers with bringing the project this close to fruition.
"Especially the ones that have helped us put this together," she said. "It's been amazing for me and all the people that we worked with."
A team of 250 community artists are volunteering their time to hand carve and paint 52 carousel animals, plus two chariot seats.
Business leaders see the carousel as a centerpiece for downtown revitalization.
Kirbey hopes the final $1.3 million for the project can be raised within a year.
