Alana Holmes selected to lead Lane County Human Resources Department
EUGENE, Ore. -- Tuesday, Lane County Administrator Steve Mokrohisky announced that Alana Holmes, a leader with more than 25 years of experience in human resources, has been chosen as the County’s new Human Resources director. Holmes will join Lane County on December 11, 2017.
“Alana brings a strong record of leadership and a clear appreciation for the value of our dedicated employees, the quality of the services we provide and the importance of engaging the entire organization in creating innovative solutions,” said Mokrohisky. “Her experience in driving organizational change and working to improve the equity and diversity of the hiring and retention process will be great assets to Lane County.”
Holmes succeeds Marsha Edwards, who previously served as the director of Human Resources and recently retired. Holmes was selected after a national search process and numerous interviews this fall, including participation by employees, advisory committee members, community partners, labor representatives and other stakeholders. The process included candidate phone interviews, two in-person interview panels, and a meet and greet, as well as numerous comments submitted by employees and community partners, county officials said.
The Lane County Human Resources Director is responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining a responsive, talented, and diverse workforce committed to meeting the public's needs. The department includes 17 employees.
"The opportunity to help enrich the talent and employee engagement, as well as enhance a more inclusive and culturally aware organization at Lane County, was one I couldn't say no to," said Holmes. "Human Resources plays an important role in shaping the culture of an organization and in making sure the community's need for services is met. I am excited to work with the talented Human Resources team at Lane County as we map out priorities and a shared vision for our future work."
Holmes has served as the director of Human Resources for the City of Eugene for the past eight years. From 2001 to 2007, she served as the employee and labor relations manager at the University of Oregon. Prior to 2001, Holmes held a variety of legal and human resources positions in Texas.
"During her professional career, Holmes has been lauded for use of technology to create efficient and engaging methods to train, recruit and hire employees," the County said in a news release. "Her experience with strategic planning around diversity initiatives and equity programs, both at the University of Oregon and City of Eugene, will serve Lane County well, as will her legal background and broad experience in a variety of organizations."
Holmes holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a juris doctor from Santa Clara University in California. Holmes has served on the City of Eugene’s Internal Equity and Human Rights Board, United Way Lane County Internal Operations Committee, the Equity & Community Consortium, University of Oregon’s Special Education Advisory Board, and more, the County said.
