COOS BAY, Ore. - Two people died when their cars collided nearly head-on on Highway 101 between Coos Bay and Bandon.
The victims have been identified as 64-year-old Virginia Simpson Woodson of San Francisco and 80-year-old Donald William Dodge of Bandon.
According to state police, Dodge was southbound on Hwy 101 in a Honda Accord around 3:30 p.m. when his car crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic.
Dodge's Accord crashed nearly head-on into a Honda Element driven by Woodson.
Both drivers died at the scene 10 miles south of the intersection with Oregon Highway 42.
"We're still working with the Coos County Medical Examiner's office and the Coos County DA to help us establish what the potential cause of the crash was," said Oregon State Police Lieutenant Steve Mitchell.
Highway 101 was closed for about 3 hours and was restricted to one lane for about another hour during the investigation.
