COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - A truck driver from California died Tuesday morning when his semi and trailer loaded with lumber overturned on an Interstate 5 off ramp.
Santiago Giron, 49, of Phelon, Calif., died at the scene.
Concerned about a possible passenger, first responders got help from a front-end loader from Weyerhaeuser to lift the trailer off the cab of the truck. No one else was in the truck, emergency workers confirmed.
The crash happend at 6:39 a.m. as the truck took Exit 172 from I-5. The truck and trailer overturned as it approached a stop sign at London Road.
The exit and road were closed until 1 p.m. while police investigated and tow trucks removed the wreckage.
