1 dead, 1 injured in crash on Marcola Road; police conduct criminal investigation

A car went off the road in a curve and crashed, killing 1 person and injuring another early Thursday morning. (SBG)

MARCOLA, Ore. - A driver suffered serious injuries and his passenger died when their red 1999 Ford Mustang veered across the oncoming lane of traffic and crashed early Thursday morning.

Oregon State Police said there is an ongoing criminal investigation and alcohol is a contributing factor.

The crash killed the passenger, identified as 27-year-old Rian Moore of Marcola, police said. Moore was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, police said.

The driver, 24-year-old Chadley Crespo of Marcola, suffered serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

State police said they are investigating with the help of the Lane County Sheriff and District Attorney.

The crash happened about a mile north of town.

A call reporting the crash came in around 3:30 a.m.

Lane County said the road was closed as of 7 a.m. while authorities investigated. Detours were put in place. The road was back open by 10:50 a.m.
