EUGENE, Ore. - "Shrek the Musical" is showing at the Actors Cabaret in Eugene for those looking for entertainment this December.
The show began in November and continues through Dec. 21.
The production is directed and designed by Joe Zingo and is based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and book by William Steig.
Mark VanBeever portrays Shrek. He said the musical has realistic costumes that are true to the movie's characters.
Makeup artists apply a prosthetic mask to create VanBeever's Shrek.
After his nose glue dries, VanBeever is airbrushed with green paint. The makeup application takes two hours every night of the show.
VanBeever said the process is transformative.
"Shrek has that ogre saunter," VanBeever said. "I feel giant onstage."
Young Shrek is portrayed by 12-year-old Rafael Batya. He says the production is incredibly fun to be in.
Melissa Miller plays Princess Fiona, a beloved character from the movie. Miller said the music in the production is what makes it special.
"People don't realize that it's powerful," Miller says. "Being able to sing these songs is special."
With green body paint, blue wigs, catchy music and comical lines, Shrek the Musical has no shortage of whimsical charm for every family to enjoy.
