'Every silver lining's got a touch of grey': Jerry Garcia would have been 75 on August 1
EUGENE, Ore. - Jerry Garcia was born August 1, 1942. He would have been 75 this year.
Garcia died August 9, 1995, leaving his Grateful Dead bandmates to go Furthur and find some new Company.
Even a casual observer will notice that Eugene is home to more than a few Grateful Dead fans.
You might even call them family.
From the late Ken Kesey's experiences with the band then-known as The Warlocks to the Field Trips at the Oregon Country Fair to shows at Autzen Stadium, the Dead were part of the life of Eugene.
Two public radio stations - KRVM ("Short Strange Trip" on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.) and KLCC ("Dead Air with Downtown Deb" on Saturdays at 7 p.m.) - play their music each week.
So in honor of Jerry's birthday, we dug up some archive video from a Dead show at Autzen Stadium.
