Tasty Tuesday: Chow
Burgers, brews and bacon. If you're hungry, Chow's got you covered.
Take Chow's grilled cheese sandwich, for example. Plenty of bacon, 7 types of cheese, pickled onions, and fried macaroni and cheese.
Excessive? Perhaps. Delicious? Yes.
"All of our sandwiches, all of our burgers, are layered. So you bring in a lot of different flavors, they're all layered together," Chow's owner and chef Mitchell Hescheles said.
When Mitchell says layered, he really means it- like their most popular item, the Bacon Cheeseburger On Crack. Yep, that's what it's called.
"It's pimento cheese, potato chips, fresh meat that we get down the street, then we sear it in mustard. Then it gets pepper-jack and cheddar, bacon, and we use a ciabatta roll," Hescheles said.
It has just about everything but the kitchen sink, because at Chow, it's not just a burger.
"You go everywhere and you get great burgers, but ours we try to approach it not so much as a burger, but as a meal," Hescheles said.
If you're ambitious, it's a meal. For most people, it's about two meals. This burger is so jam-packed, that knife isn't just for show. With that many toppings, you need a little support.
"My inspiration for this food was to put lots of flavors that people don't think would go together kind of all melted in one big pot," Hescheles said.
For instance, their Brie, Apple and Bacon Macaroni and Cheese. Are you seeing a theme here?
Bacon, bacon, bacon.
It's sweet, spicy, smoky, and features prominently on Chow's menu.
So if you get a hankering to chow down, come hungry. It's a little spot in Springfield with a big appetite.
