Roseburg Police K9 tracks down man accused of breaking into cars

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Roseburg Police responded to the west side of town Wednesday for a report of a man trespassing on private property and attempting to gain entry into the caller's vehicle, authorities said in a news release.

Police say the suspect left the caller's property and attempted to open doors of other vehicles in the area.

Neighbors woke up and confronted the suspect, who ran into a wooded creek area, the report said.

A Roseburg Police K9 unit with K9 Iago responded and began tracking the suspect. Iago tracked the the man through the wooded creek area and then several blocks through neighborhoods.

Iago eventually tracked to the suspect, who surrendered without incident, police said.

The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Austin Aretakis.

Police say Aretakis has thus far been charged with Burglary 1, six counts of Unlawful Entry in to a Motor Vehicle, four counts of Criminal Trespass II, and three counts of Theft III.
