Police looking for suspect in pet chinchilla abandonment
WEST LINN, Ore. —
Police are looking for a woman in her 60s who they say abandoned her pet chinchilla.
They say the woman left the small rodent in a wooded area between Carriage Way and Kapteyns Street around 4 p.m. Thursday.
The woman told a witness that she was moving and couldn’t keep the animal.
Police say chinchillas are popular pets but likely can’t survive outdoors in Oregon’s climate.
They say the woman is white, has brown hair and spoke with an accent.
They say animal abandonment is a crime and a person convicted of it could get six months in jail.
Anyone who has information in this case is asked to call West Linn police.
