Man finds remains of 7 cats, dog buried on property near Bremerton
SILVERDALE, Wash. -- A man called 911 Thursday after reportedly finding the remains of seven cats and one dog buried on his property near Bremerton, according to a news release.
The man said he noticed a foul smell on his property in the Navy Yard City neighborhood of Bremerton in unincorporated Kitsap County.
The man then found a collection of remains in various bags and containers under a bush, hidden by debris, according to the release.
According to the release, Kitsap Animal Control Officers were later able to determine that the remains consisted of several cats and a dog.
The dog's remains were reportedly in a plastic cat litter box. The cat remains were split between a garbage bag and a cardboard box, according to the release.
The dog found had been brought to Kitsap Humane Society as a stray two years ago, according to the release. It is unclear if the animals died from natural causes or if they were victims of animal neglect or cruelty.
Animal Control is interviewing residents in the neighborhood and working with the Humane Society and local law enforcement to investigate the case.
