ALVADORE, Ore. - The Army Corps of Engineers has posted signs warning dog owners to "inspect areas before you allow your pets to explore" and to keep their pets on leash after a dog got caught in an animal trap and and died at a park on the north end of Fern Ridge Reservoir on Saturday.

Alyssa Roberts said her dog Nala got caught in the trap at Kirk Park around 11 a.m. and died from the injuries.

Roberts said she hopes the person who put out the traps learns a lesson - and that this doesn't happen to anyone else.

The Army Corps posted a sign warning visitors of "illegal animal traps" and urging dog owners to keep their pets on 6-foot leashes at all times.

"It is recommended to inspect areas before you allow your pets to explore," the sign says.
