MEDFORD, Ore. - After spending 50 days in jail a Medford man was able to reunited with the officer who arrested him.

Tyler Culbertson suffered with a heroin addiction for 10 years but the encouragement from Officer Jennifer Newell from Medford Police, on the ride over to jail after being caught shoplifting, changed his outlook on life.

"I told Tyler that I thought that his family and friends would be supportive if he took that first step to get clean and sober and just start small," said Newell.

Culbertson attributes this to his recovery.

"I heard everything that she said and it wasn't in one ear and out the other," said Culbertson.

He is now 61 days sober and looking forward to the future.

"It's kind of exciting because I no longer have those chains running through my veins and I can do whatever you want to do," said Culbertson.

After less than two weeks out of jail, Culbertson already found a job at Rogue Regency.

He begins as a cook soon.
