When it comes to nutrition, fat is public enemy number one. But there are different kinds of fat - and they're not all bad. In fact, we need a little fat in our diet.
Based on the latest research, Monounsaturated Fatty Acids or MUFAs are the type of fat you want to eat. Olives, olive oil, nuts, seeds, avocado, canola and peanut oil are all high in MUFAs.
Certified Nutritionist Deborah Enos, The One-Minute Wellness Coach, told me about a recent study that showed having a little monounsaturated fat with every meal can have substantial health benefits.
"Your body will actually burn more belly fat," Enos said. "And belly fat, as we've heard in the news, is probably one of the biggest detriments to our health."
Just remember, this isn't a free pass to eat as much as you want.
"These are high-calorie foods," Enos noted. "So you don't need to have avocados, olives, olive oil and dark chocolate all in one meal. Just a little bit goes a long way."
