Robot school: 'Experiences that you don't get in normal classes'

THURSTON, Ore. - Thurston High School put on an open house for it's robotics program.

Visitors were able to see the student made machines in action, and even grab hold of the controls and take them for a spin themselves.

Students who are already a part of the program say it is not only a lot of fun, but it is a great opportunity to prepare for the future.

"It provides specific career experiences that you don't get in normal classes," says Madison Wilson, a Thurston High School junior, "and specifically it provides experiences for engineering."

The Thurston Robotics team recently competed in the FIRST Tech Challenge but fell just shy of making it to the state tournament.
