SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A semi truck hit a woman in a crosswalk Tuesday night and dragged her for 50 feet without the driver knowing his rig had hit something, police said.
The pedestrian, Amanda Milbrodt, 22, of Springfield, Oregon, was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital at RiverBend with a broken left leg, a fractured vertebra and a lacerated spleen. She was in stable condition Tuesday night.
The crash happened around 7:18 p.m. as trucker Fredrick Hunnicutt, 62, of Eugene made a turn onto Gateway Loop off Gateway Street.
Police said Hunnicutt was unaware his truck had hit Milbrodt until he was stopped by people who witnessed the collision. The truck dragged Milbrodt 40 to 50 feet before she came unstuck.
The Springfield Police Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting the investigation.
