'Almost, Maine' opens Friday at Wildish

From a press release

The Springfield Academy of Arts & Academics presents "Almost, Maine" by John Cariani on February 25, 26, and March 3, 4, & 5 at the Richard E. Wildish Community Theatre, 630 Main St., Springfield. All performances are at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors. Children (ages 5 to 17) and college students (with valid ID) are free.

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend-almost-in this delightful midwinter night's dream.

"Almost, Maine" was recently declared by the Educational Theatre Association as the most produced full-length play in American High Schools. Of special note, The A3 production will share one of their opening week performances with the "Almost, Maine" cast from Amity High School in Amity, Oregon. On a night unbeknownst to the A3 cast, members of the Amity cast will take over their roles without the benefit of having rehearsed together nor, for that matter, ever having actually met. The actors will play the show under the same circumstances of the play: as complete strangers. The following weekend, A3 cast members will travel to Amity for the same. This is the third "splash" collaboration between A3 director Michael Fisher and Amity director Dave Lund.
